Tenerife Day trips

The island is small enough that everything is a day trip, and the good ones fall into three groups. Teide is the first: up through the pine belt, across the crater floor and back down another road, with the cable car in the middle of it.

The second is the north, which visitors staying in the south routinely never see: La Laguna, La Orotava, the dragon tree at Icod, the lava rock pools at Garachico and the wine villages between them. The third leaves the island altogether. La Gomera is fifty minutes by ferry from Los Cristianos and is a genuinely different place, with its own laurel forest and a whistled language still in use.
