Tenerife Activities
Things to Do in Tenerife
Whale and dolphin boats, diving, the Teide crater, and some of the finest walking in the whole Atlantic.
The strait between Tenerife and La Gomera holds resident pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins all year, which is the island's single best activity and the reason the water here was designated a Whale Heritage Site. Boats run daily from the southern ports and the sightings are close to reliable.
On land the draw is the climb. Roads and trails run from sea level to 2,000 metres in under an hour, so a morning at the coast and an afternoon among lava fields is a normal day. The walking is genuinely good: the laurel forest in the northeast, the crater trails, and the ravine paths in the west. Add diving in warm clear Atlantic water, and the wind sports at El Medano.
