Tenerife Diving
Diving in Tenerife
The diving here is volcanic, which means walls, arches, caves and lava tubes rather than reef. Water temperature runs from the high teens in late winter to the mid twenties in autumn, so a season is not really a thing, and visibility is regularly better than thirty metres.
The southern coast holds most of the sites and most of the schools: green turtles that have become genuinely habituated at one bay near Los Cristianos, angel sharks in the sandy shallows in winter, rays, barracuda and a scattering of deliberately sunk wrecks. Most centres teach in several languages and take absolute beginners on a try dive.
