Hiring a car is what turns a Tenerife holiday from a resort week into an island one, because the roads are good, the distances are short and everything worth seeing is somewhere the bus goes slowly.
The supply is concentrated at the two airports, and Tenerife South carries the great majority of it. In the resort towns the model is different: rather than a desk you walk to, the car is delivered to the address you give, whether that is a hotel or an apartment. Only the airports and Puerto de la Cruz have named collection points. Take a physical credit card in the main driver's name, which is the single most common reason a pickup fails.
