Where to Eat in Tenerife
Canarian kitchens in the northern wine villages, seafood in the fishing ports and a deep international trade along the southern strip.
Eating on Tenerife divides along the same line as everything else on the island. The south is where the visitors are, so the resort towns carry a broad international trade: Italian kitchens, grills, curry houses and sea-view terraces, priced for people on holiday and open late.
The north is where the island eats. Canarian cooking means papas arrugadas with red and green mojo, goat cheese, gofio, rabbit in salmorejo and fish landed that morning, and the places serving it are plainer and cheaper. The guachinche belongs to this half: a small family room in the wine villages above the coast, pouring its own wine alongside a short menu. Both halves are worth your time, and the drive between them is under an hour.
