The sea floor falls away very quickly off the southwest coast, which puts genuine big-game water within a short run of the harbour rather than a half-day steam offshore. That is the whole reason Tenerife has the reputation it does for this.

Blue marlin is the headline and the season runs through the summer and into autumn. Tuna, wahoo, dorado and skipjack fill the rest of the year, and inshore trips work for smaller species without the deep-sea price. Charters go from Los Gigantes, Puerto Colon and Los Cristianos, by the half day or the full day, with tackle and licences normally included.
