The coach tour is how a large share of visitors see the island, and it exists because the south is where the hotels are and the sights are somewhere else. The standard circuits run to the Teide crater, to the northern towns, and to the west coast, with pickup from the resort hotels early and a return in the late afternoon.

Smaller minibus operators cover the same ground in groups of eight or so and get into places a coach cannot turn around in. This is also the practical way to see the island without hiring a car, though a car gives you the northern villages and the mountain roads on your own schedule and usually costs less across a week.
