Nightlife in Tenerife
Resort bars and clubs along the southern strip, and a very different late-night city scene up in Santa Cruz.
There are two nightlife islands here and they barely overlap. The southern resorts run the visitor version: bar strips at Playa de las Americas and Costa Adeje, live music aimed at a British and Irish audience, beach clubs that keep going after dark, and a small number of large clubs that fill after one in the morning.
Santa Cruz and La Laguna run the Spanish version, which starts later, involves more walking between small bars, and is dominated by students in La Laguna's old town. The island's biggest night of all is Carnival in Santa Cruz in February, which takes over the whole city for a fortnight and is the largest of its kind in Europe.
