Tenerife Private drivers & minibuses

Hiring a driver rather than a car makes sense on this island more often than it does elsewhere, for two reasons. The first is the roads: the mountain circuits are narrow, steep and slow, and a driver who knows them turns a tiring day into a comfortable one.

The second is groups. A minibus with a driver for eight or twelve people costs less per head than several taxis and far less than a coach excursion, and it goes where you want rather than where the tour goes. Operators run by the half day or the day, from the southern resorts and the capital, usually with an English-speaking driver, and prices are agreed before you set off.
