Tenerife Hostels

Tenerife is not a backpacking island in the way that some are, but it has a real hostel trade and it sits where the independent travellers do rather than in the package resorts. El Medano has the surf and windsurf hostels, Santa Cruz and La Laguna have the city ones, and there are a few in Puerto de la Cruz and around the walking country in the north.

Dorms of four to eight beds plus a smaller number of private rooms is the usual shape. The better ones run their own kitchens and organise walks in Anaga and Teide, which makes them a practical base rather than just a cheap bed.
