Tenerife Local food & wine
Canarian Food and Wine Shops in Tenerife
The list of things worth carrying home from this island is short and specific. Wine from the five protected regions, most of it made from grapes grown nowhere else. Honey rum and palm syrup. Goat cheese, which the island makes in quantity and which wins international medals it rarely gets credit for. Mojo in jars, both colours. Gofio, and the black volcanic salt from the south coast salt pans.
The municipal markets are the best places to buy it: the produce hall in Santa Cruz and the market in La Laguna both have cheese, wine and cured meat counters alongside the fruit, and the sellers will let you taste before you commit.
