Tenerife Cafes
Cafes and Coffee in Tenerife
Coffee here has a local order worth knowing. A barraquito is built in a glass in layers: condensed milk, liqueur, espresso, foamed milk, a strip of lemon peel and cinnamon on top. Ask for it without the liqueur and you get a barraquito sin licor, which is what most people drink in the morning.
Beyond that the island splits again. The resort towns do long breakfast terraces aimed at people with nowhere to be. Santa Cruz, La Laguna and Puerto de la Cruz have a genuine specialty scene, with roasters working Canarian beans from the neighbouring island alongside imports. Most places open early and stay open into the evening.
