FAQ

What makes a taxi official here?

It is licensed by the municipality, carries a licence number and runs to a published tariff. That regulation is the difference from a private hire vehicle, and it is what gives you somewhere to complain.

Is booking ahead cheaper than a rank?

Not necessarily, since the tariff is regulated either way. What it buys is certainty and no queue, which after a delayed flight into a busy terminal is worth having.

Can I book a return as well?

The booking form takes a return leg, which is the part people forget. Arranging a six in the morning departure from an apartment on the day is considerably harder.

How much is a taxi to the southern resorts?

It runs on the meter to a regulated tariff, and the southern airport to Los Cristianos or Playa de las Américas is a short journey. Longer runs, particularly to the north, become expensive.

Do taxis take card?

Many do and not all, and this varies more here than in a mainland city. Ask before setting off rather than at the destination, and keep some cash for the ones that do not.

Is a taxi or a transfer better?

A taxi for short hops and spontaneity; a pre-booked transfer for an airport arrival with luggage and children. They are different products rather than competing prices.
