Tenerife Pharmacies

A Spanish farmacia is marked by an illuminated green cross and is a genuinely useful first stop rather than a last resort. Pharmacists here are trained to advise and can dispense a wide range without a prescription, which covers most of what goes wrong on a holiday: sunburn, bites, upset stomachs, ear infections after diving and seasickness tablets before a boat.

Opening is usually morning and late afternoon, with a break in the middle of the day, and each municipality runs a rota so at least one is open overnight and on holidays. That rota is displayed in every pharmacy window and on the door. Bring your health insurance card and your prescription for anything you take regularly.
