Where exactly is Buenavista Golf?
At the north-western end of Tenerife, past Garachico and below the Teno massif. It is about as far from the southern airport as the island allows, roughly an hour and a half by road.
Who designed the course?
Seve Ballesteros. The routing pushes several holes right to the edge of the rock, which is why the course is described as seaside rather than parkland even though it is not a traditional links.
Can you stay on site?
There is a hotel beside the course, and combined arrangements covering accommodation, half board, rounds and spa access are the usual way visitors book. Buying a single round on its own is also possible.
Is it worth the drive from the south?
It depends what you want from a round. The setting is unlike anything on the southern coast, but the journey is long enough that most people build a whole day around it rather than treating it as a morning out.
Is the wind a problem on this coast?
The north-west catches the trade winds directly, so the course plays differently from one day to the next. That is part of its appeal to better players and part of why it can feel harder than the card suggests.
What is the weather like in the north-west?
Cooler and greener than the south, with more cloud. The northern side of the island catches the moisture the trade winds carry, which is why the landscape around Buenavista looks nothing like the resorts.
